Already massively popular in South Korea, K-Pop artist CL is attempting to recreate the same success in North America. At the helm of production for the rapper/singer’s english debut is none other than mega-producer Diplo. The first offering from the pair, a banger titled Doctor Pepper, has just been released above.

The track not only features CL but rappers RiFF RAFF and OG Maco for added thug appeal. “Diplo canceled a session on me, and I was so mad at him. I was drinking a can of Dr. Pepper and wrote the song so I could go home as soon as possible,” CL recently told The Fader of the track’s nonsensical hook. “Diplo ended up loving it!”

After The Baddest Female (one of CL‘s biggest Korean hits), I’ve been patiently waiting for the former 2NE1 member to successfully crossover. America could use more popular asian female singers, especially in the urban genre. After listening to Doctor Pepper, it’s obvious that Diplo is helping CL nurture a delicate balance between her K-Pop roots and newer Hip Hop persona.

I can’t wait to hear other offerings from the upcoming project. Until then, more information about CL is available at her official website.
