As stated by Wikipedia, “The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s Costume Institute in New York City.”

This prestigious event warrants exotic themes – this year’s being “China: Through The Looking Glass” – and ticket prices of around $25,000. Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour has spearheaded the yearly ball since 1995.

So what is a lucky attendee of the A-list soiree to expect to witness? A lot of high fashion or fashion that looks like it was made by designer’s who were high? Look at the social media spawned memes of attendee’s from this year’s exclusive affair and judge for yourself:

With a very flamboyant headpiece and dress designed by Guo Pei that allegedly took four professional handlers to carry, Rihanna‘s 2015 Met Gala look was hilariously compared to everything from Beauty and the Beast‘s Belle to an omelette.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Collaborating with fashion retailer H&M to design her own 2015 Met Gala look, Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress and headpiece that was compared more with cartoons and children’s television characters than the Chinese-influenced theme it was likely intended to be inspired by.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus wore a high neck cuff and slicked back, blue hair to this year’s Met Gala, sparking comparisons to random things like a person with a stocking cap over their head and Gollum from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Anne Hathaway

I personally loved Anne Hathaway‘s Ralph Lauren designed gold look, but internet trolls still found a way to comically compare it to something as culturally relevant as C3PO from the Star Wars franchise.

Yes. As perfect as Beyoncé looked in Riccardo Tisci at this year’s festivities, viral social media still found a way to humorously mock Mrs. Carter’s notable confidence.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian‘s Roberto Cavalli gown didn’t garner laughs, but did gain numerous comparisons to Beyoncé‘s darker leftover’s from last year’s Met Gala. What did Kim do, steal Bey’s dress and simply apply bleach? They do look pretty darn similar.

Katy Perry, Madonna & Lady GagaIMG_1337

Allegedly, megastars Katy Perry, Madonna, and Lady Gaga got together during this year’s Met Gala and snapped this photo of themselves happily in co-horts, immediately getting compared to the classic witch comedy Hocus Pocus.

As you can see above. The 2015 Met Gala didn’t just give us high style and Hollywood heavyweights, it also brought the laughs.
