For the gritty Run The Jewels track Close Your Eyes (And Count To F**k) featuring Zack de la Rocha, members El-P and Killer Mike wanted to create visuals that were as meaningful as the song itself. Now the clip for the tune has officially arrived with a theme tackling the delicately relevant subject of police brutality. In the video, a law enforcement officer and unarmed black man battle until they find themselves too exhausted to continue, neither emerging victorious.
“This is a vision of a seemingly never-ending struggle whose participants are pitted against each other by forces originating outside of themselves,” El-P says about the video’s concept. Killer Mike adds, “This video represents the futile and exhausting existence of a purgatory-like law enforcement system. There is no neat solution at the end because there is no neat solution in the real world. However, there is an opportunity to dialogue and change the way communities are policed in this country.”
