Looking like something straight out of a science fiction novel are the accessories created by Tokyo-bred designer, Maiko Takeda. Stating, “Environmental influences such as shadow, wind and gravity, create an experience of wonder and bewilderment for the adorned.” You can see the visual effect her pieces give the models wearing them and popular Icelandic singer, Björk, a fan of Takeda’s designs. It’s surprising her pieces haven’t been seen on Lady Gaga yet. Finding inspiration from things outside of fashion and pop culture, Maiko has created head, body and handbag designs that have a futurist, yet elegant appeal. With impressive work credits that include Issey Miyake, Stephen Jones, Philip Treacy and Erickson Beamon, Maiko Takeda stands to revitalize the world of accessories as we know it. A welcome and refreshing change.
